The Power of Quotes

Superman's arch-enemy, Lux Lethor once said: “Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe”

First of all, great sentence, I could write a whole essay about it. But that's the point, isn't it? I mean, you pulled one of these during a conversation, and suddenly you are Him. That's the power of a perfect quote, the power of good lines in books, movies, or even our own ideas, the amount of information comprised in one little sentence, in only a few words, and it says so much.

I believe that's where the popular sayings come from, little sentences that once heard are quickly stored and maintained in our memory (think about how many sayings you know), and then pass into generations because essentially they are fundamentally true, and tell you everything you need to know for the price of no effort to learn it.

I believe we need more and new ones, all the ones I know existed even before my grandparents' time. Times have changed but the importance of comprised, easy to learn knowledge has not. In a world where morality is slowly disappearing (or increasing to a point that means absolutely nothing), we could really use the help of popular sayings.
